Local Places
There are so many options for places to visit, all within 30 minutes of our site. From the seaside town of Burnham-on-Sea to the historic cathedral City of Wells and quaint villages of Mark, Brent Knoll and Wedmore. In the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Beauty, Cheddar Gorge offers breathtaking climbs and Glastonbury Tor a more leisurely walk. Beaches at Berrow and Brean offer a quieter stroll whilst Brean Down and Brent Knoll reward walkers with panoramic views.
Local Activities
If you want to want to explore the area on two wheels, there is local bike hire available and so many places to visit on wheels or walking.
Wedmore has its own fishing lakes just down the road, there are 2 swimming pools locally at Burnham and Brean and a local small cinema in Burnham.
Burnham boasts prestigious links championship and channel golf courses or you can visit Brean or Wedmore courses.
Weston offers its Grand Pier, beach and various attractions just 20 minutes from our site. Meanwhile, Cheddar has various activities to offer from caving, climbing and abseiling to cheese making, whilst stand up paddle boarding and sailing are available to try at Axbridge reservoir.
Whilst in Somerset, why not visit Thatchers in Sandford for a tours and tasting, as well as the restaurant and shop on site.
For something a bit different visit Mendip Activity Centre for dry slope snow sports, tobogganing and Frisbee golf. Further afield, The Wave just 25 minutes up the M5 is the first inland-surfing destination of its kind where you can surf or spectate.
Somerset Boat Hire along the Bridgwater and Taunton canal offer skippered narrow boats, as well as paddle board, canoe, kayak, day boat and rowing boat hire from just £10 per hour.
Local Annual Events
January sees the traditional Wassailing events held in our local villages to promote good harvest for the season ahead; with lots of cider and dancing.
Burnham-on-Sea hosts food & drink and music festivals which are free to attend, family-friendly, accessible and held in a town centre twice a year, in May and October, celebrating local producers and musicians.
Throughout August, many of the villages around us hold their Harvest Home celebrations, with food, drink and dancing! Burnham-on-Sea also hosts its rescue services day during summer holidays with lots of activities.
September sees Burnham-on-Sea’s annual two-day kite festival take to the skies, and 3 day music and performing arts festival.
On the first Monday in November, Burnham-on-Sea welcomes the Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival with illuminated floats and processions and must-see if you are in Sedgemoor in November. Starting in Bridgwater early November, the carnival makes its way round various Sedgemoor towns during the month, including our nearest town Burnham on Sea. The night before Burnham on Sea Carnival always coincides with Burnham on Sea infamous fireworks display over the beach.
Eating Out
We are spoilt for choice when it comes to local eateries, with family run village pubs in Mark, Brent Knoll and East Brent all within a few miles of the site. We have a local cider farm just 3 miles away, a newly renovated carvery within minutes of the site and a wider range of cuisines in Burnham-on-Sea.
There are also various takeaway and delivery options for guests staying at our site.
Shopping
We have a local village shop and post office in Mark, stocking all essentials including fresh food for your stay. Farm shops and cider farm nearby sell local produce and Farmers Markets in Burnham-on-Sea (last Friday each month) and Axbridge (first Saturday each month) provide wide variety of fresh, high quality, locally produced food.
Independent boutique style shopping can be found in Wedmore, whilst other local shops can be explored in Burnham-on-Sea just a few miles away.
Further afield, there is a designer outlet in Street with over 90 designer and high street brands whilst Bridgwater, Weston-super-Mare, Taunton and Bristol offer high streets and shopping centres.
